(Almost) Weekly Wednesday: We're Late and Sorry

Hello Friends!

First, I want to extend my most sincere apologies to you as Meg and I have barely posted a thing in the past month. I'll get to that in a minute. For now, Happy November! We hope you had a lovely Halloween and that you either gave or received lots of candy.

FUN FACT: One year for Halloween, I dressed up as a Kit-Kat bar. Two people took my picture.

Anyways, onto why Meg and I haven't posted a gosh darn thing in the past little bit.

I have forgotten how to read.

Okay, not LITERALLY. I suppose I should say that I've forgotten ABOUT reading. It isn't because I don't want to either, oh no! Here's the thing. I'm in the International Baccalaureate Programme (IB), or at least a part of it, anyways. In case you don't know what that is, let me provide for you a link: http://www.ibo.org/

If you read through all of that, you will see that I am insanely swamped and overwhelmed. At the moment, I'm feeling guilty about going on a trip this weekend because I have a lab report due on Monday. I have little to no time to read or write or think about anything besides numbers, chemisty and Macbeth (fabulous play, by the way).

But the sad thing is that I love it.

I don't exactly love all of the work, and sometimes I just want to scream. But when I get a paper back with a good mark, or I see that my teachers are impressed, I feel unbelievably proud. For nerds like myself, there is no better feeling than knowing that someone is pleased with your intellectual abilities. Heck, there's no better feeling than knowing that YOUR intellectual abilities are up to par. It's a real self-esteem booster, let me tell you that much.

Yes, I may be exhausted and have bags under my eyes. Yes, I might have been letting you guys down, and I'm insanely sorry for that. But I'm enjoying myself. I feel like I'm running on a moving sidewalk, and I'm going miles faster than I should be, but that's okay. With that feeling is also an exhilaration, and pretending I'm Superwoman. And sometimes, I scrounge for points so hard I feel like Mario attacking bricks and stomping on Goombas. And sometimes, I realize that I'm so delusional, I'm picturing myself as fictional characters.

Back to the main point. I love reading, and I love writing for you guys, but I just can't right now. I'm trying really hard to finish a book at the moment, and I'll  have a review up shortly. Until then, reread through some of our old ones, or go look for free samples of products. What those things have in common, I have no idea.

I'm an IB student, not a genius.

Your Superwoman,
Elizabeth

(Almost) Weekly Wednesday: I Have a Confession...

I... I wasn't ready to do this. Not yet. I kept thinking It's too soon. Hold on a little while, let them ease into your oddness. But I can't. I feel that we've bonded in these past two months, friends, and I can't keep such a secret from you. So, without further ado, I will make my confession.

*Ahem*

I coupon.

I know, I know! It's a little lame. Actually, no. You know what? What's wrong with couponing? I mean, if lame is saving heaps of money and feeling a thrill like none other when you hand over your coupons, so be it. It's really an adrenaline rush, or a runner's high, except without the physical activity.

Oh gosh. It took over again. It's an addiction, something I can't shake. At least it's better than gambling.

But the things that get me the most are the freebies. Oh Lordy, the freebies! At the moment, I have over a dozen freebies coming in the mail for me. That basically means that over a dozen companies are sending me free versions of their product because I just wrote my name and said I wanted it! That's it! And it is one hundred percent free! If you're lucky, they'll send coupons with the freebie too.

When I went to the movies the other day, I printed coupons for a sub shop that my pals and I could use to get 50% off. Do you know how happy I was to give the gift of free money to my friends? Insanely happy because a) their faces just lit up, b) I gave them their present and c) I'm really cheap, so it was a great, free gift!

There. It's off my chest now. I no longer have to worry about hiding the other, manic, dark side of me from you. There are worse afflictions to have, I suppose.

On a completely unrelated note... Does anybody want some adult diapers?

-Liz

(Almost) Weekly Wednesday: Entertainment Lists

Howdy Folks!

Contrary to popular belief, Meg and I both REALLY love television. And music. And I love clothes/makeup. I promise you that we aren't JUST book nerds, but nerds of all trades. And should you be (GASP) sick of reading, please check out the list below to see what we've been watching, wearing and listening to recently.

LIZ'S LIST:

  1. Television: The Office, Season 9 has just started, and I want to cry! It's the final season, and it disappoints me because I just discovered The Office four or five months ago. I actually spent a month watching every episode on my computer so I could be caught up, that's how much I loved it. If you weren't an Office fan before, don't watch it. You'll get too addicted, and you'll just crash and burn from the agony of having a wonderful, hilarious show ripped from under your feet. Or maybe not. Maybe your personality isn't as addictive as mine.
  2. Movies: The Notebook was the movie I watched most recently and I hated that I loved it. I have never cried so hard watching anything in my life. I have a heart of stone when it comes to most fictional (and, let's be honest here, non-fictional) events, but this movie just melted me. I was watching it was Meg and another friend of ours for the first time, and I was trying so hard not to cry, but it was pointless. I ended up making myself cry harder, and I was sobbing on our friend's shoulder. It sucked. But the movie was great! (P.S. it was hilarious to watch, Liz sounded like she was laughing while having the hick ups while breathing in water!! and her facial expressions, they were to die for!! - Love Meg ;)
  3. Clothes: AH MY GOSH, this is the most exciting part for me! As a gift, I was given this lovely Juicy Couture bracelet and it's so pretty and I can't stop staring at it! Just look at it! It's so beautiful!
  4. Makeup: This has been my longtime love, and I am shocked that beauty gurus on YouTube or other blogs have never talked about it, but the Full Effect Extreme Action Mascara by Sephora is to die for! It's $18 a tube (I got a deluxe version for seventy-five cents and it had lasted me for months, even with daily use) and it makes my eyelashes look AMAZING! SO BEAUTIFUL! They make them longer, thicker, and they separate wonderfully, so I would certainly tell you to go buy a tube.
MEG'S LIST
YO people from the rest of this world (or maybe not...), welcome to my list :D

  1. Television: I don't have one favourite tv show. I have 5. Lost Girl!!! Oh man, i watched all the seasons in a whole week. THe show is to die for. No joke. For those of you who haven't seen it, its a paranormal, romantic, action packed, drama filled, crazy awesome show. Next is flashpoint!! It's one of those crime and cop shows and I love it. Makes my day whenever I watch it. Onto Castle!! Again its a crime, mystery solving, cop show aha. I love 'em. This one though is more comedy filled. The fourth show is Stargate Sg1!!!!!!!!! I have seen all the episodes and all the movies and Carter is my all time favourite character. I don't even have any words to describe it, thats how awesome it is. Last but not least is Gravity Falls on Family Channel. Yes I still watch family channel, but only for this show. Its all comedy and I think we need that in our lives or... Maybe I just need it... :)
  2. Words: This is just random but I love saying them. Flip, holy, hobot, hobag, mother, shizz, grrr, shee-it, plight, rubbish, lies!, lithium, potassium, omj, and many many more :)
  3. Movie: She's the Man!!!!!!!! who doesn't love that movie?? i watch it everytime I'm sick and have watched it like 30 times (thats probably under the real amount). I know all the words and could probably win a game show based around it. Watch it, i dare you.
  4. Music: Ummm this is one of the hardest questions to answer (not that i was asked a question...) so i will list who i am listening to right now: Paramore, Coldplay, Halestorm, The Killers, The Sounds, Regina Spektor, Kathryn Calder, The Pretty Reckless, Neon Trees, LP, and Exitmusic. If you have not heard of one of these bands/artists I suggest you check them out. And most of that list are some of my favs so... yeah.
  5. Color: OMJ!! Its really hard to chose, they are all so beautiful in their own way. Light, light blue, neon green, neon yellow, neon pink, iris purple, light orange (baby orange???), blood red, white and black and a combo of blue and grey. AND AUQA!
P.S. GASP- Grabbing All Spare Pennies... Just saying

(Almost) Weekly Wednesday: What's Going On With Us

Okay, okay. We know. This is a book blog, and chances are, you're coming on this blog to read about books. Oh, don't worry! We have plenty of book reviews here, so you can get your fill with one of those. But we thought that we'd also have a little update day where we give you guys the scoop on what has been happening in our lives! If you have any awesome ideas on what we should call this (almost) weekly post, let us know in the comments and we might just give you a shout out in the next (Almost) Weekly Wednesday.

But down to business.

  1. Meg and I have been furiously trying to read through dozens of books to get reviews posted, but even with two people, that's difficult. At the moment, I'm reading three books (one for pleasure, two for school) and Meg is reading three books (all for pleasure, lucky duck). However, reading so many books slows the reviews down, especially mine, because I'm pretty certain you guys don't want a review about a book set in an African tribe fifty years ago. Or maybe you do. I've never been good at reading people, only books (HA!). I finished a novel just yesterday, so the review for that will be up shortly, I promise!
  2. Two days ago, Meg put up a review for Wintergirls by Laurie Halse Anderson (if you haven't read that post yet, check it out), and it has already had A LOT more hits than we usually get (I won't tell you specifics- I can't divulge ALL our secrets) . This is partly due to the help of Ms. Anderson herself, who retweeted our blog post to her 16000 followers, and for that, we shall forever be indebted to her! We are also forever indebted to everyone that clicked the link and read Meg's blog post! Thanks so much for all the support and love you sent our way, even if you did say "This SUCKS and I hate it!" AT LEAST YOU TALKED ABOUT OUR BLOG!
  3. We will be trying our very hardest to put up lots and lots of goodies for you guys, especially with Halloween right around the corner. Perhaps we'll make some lists of books... I don't really know yet! You guys are our audience, and unless you tell us what you want to see, we'll just put up stuff WE would want to see. I highly doubt any of you want to watch horror movies that have Meg and I getting killed by a panda bear. Or maybe you do. I just really hope you don't.
  4. SIDE NOTE: Meg and I went to go watch Pitch Perfect with a couple of our friends last weekend (it came out early where we live) and I have to tell you that it was FABULOUS! It comes out on Friday everywhere, so if you haven't already purchased your tickets, get them right now! Fat Amy is waiting for you!
We love you guys SO SO MUCH! Whether you're from the United States, India, China, Russia, the UK or Canada, you're so amazingly awesome, we can't barely stand it! We'll be sure to have something soon to let you know how much we appreciate you, and all of that jazz.

SO MUCH LOVE IT HURTS!
-Meg and Liz
